Accra, Ghana, April 24, 2017 –
Ghana’s President Akufo-Addo has appointed Kosi Antwiwaa Yankey as the acting Executive Director for the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI). She will lead the strategic re-organization of NBSSI in the coming years.
Before her appointment at NBSSI, Kosi was a founding and managing partner for an international development-consulting firm. Ms. Yankey graduated from Harvard University, USA, with a Masters in Public Administration and Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government. At Harvard she received the 2016 excellence award for academic distinction and distinguished contribution to the Edward S. Mason Program and the School. Kosi also has many years work experience in the USA, Europe and West Africa. Her experiences range from working as a Banker at Deutsche Bank, Citigroup, Merrill Lynch and UBS. Amongst many of her roles, she was involved in the establishment of one of the first multimillion-dollar microfinance fund set up by an investment bank. Through her work, she developed a deep understanding and knowledge of finance, incubating businesses, accelerating their growth and funding SME’s. Kosi has developed international incubators and accelerators to provide support, implement research and grow MSMEs and entrepreneurs specifically in Africa in order to scale up and make their businesses investor ready. In 2014, an incubator she setup was listed amongst the top ten to watch in Africa.
Over the years, Kosi has founded and led the strategic development and growth of various projects for international and local partners. As a consultant, she has worked and supported programs funded by various partners such as USAID, CIDA and the Dutch Embassy, as well as international NGOs, impact investors, and a number of consulting firms. In the past three years, she has raised and managed multi million dollars in funds and developed different entrepreneurial programs to support entrepreneurs and their Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Ghana.
In 2011, she was selected as one of five finalists for the Women in Business Challenge held in the Netherlands. Whilst at Harvard she co-developed “Conversations on Africa: Investments, Business and Government”; a forum that brought African thought leaders, entrepreneurs and politicians to share ideas on advancing Africa.
Kosi received her BA in Government from Wesleyan University, Connecticut, USA, and also has a certificate in Market Access for Sustainable Development from Wageningen University, Netherlands.
